one fine evening, the mother had just taken her medication for migraine + some drousy pill & dozing off to slumber land.... there came some crying from downstairs... the mother sent the father to check it out.... father came up with little bino... ... ok not so little liao... 2 yrs old already.... father laid bino down on the bed. bino had his left arm bent and held tightly against his chest. father tried to straighten his arm... wail wail wail!!! ok mommy said, let him be, once the pain subsides, he will allow u to straighten, dun force it.... so, the mother carried and he refused to be put down, and kept his face on her shoulder, and his arm close to his chest.... after a while, she managed to prop him over and watch tv together... all this while, not a word from the usually chatty boy... but rather, much whining and 'tare-ing'... after about 15-30mins of stoning at the tv.. still not a sound from him... mother says time to see doc. he is not his usual self. he fell asleep in the car on the way there.... so the mother took the chance to press onto the shoulder blade, the hand, the fingers, the arm, the elbow,.... no response, no waking, no crying... ok good, so can't be that bad right? or either that, the mother not pressing hard enough... all this while, his left arm is still held tightly against his chest. so went to kkh a&e, and saw the doc. apparently, it's deemed as a 'serious' case cos bino's name was announced over the PA, and did not go by the queue numberical order. the doc asked what happened, and the usual, tempted him with sweets and tongue depressors, which bino reached out for with his right hand.... the doc asked to see his left hand... the doc gently straighted his arm, and while examining it, the paed said that he had twisted and clicked it back in place already. [?!?!?!] its apparently pretty normal for that to happen in children... [not sure what the correct medical term for it would be though... dislodged/displaced/dislocated the elbow ball and socket bones] the parents stared amazement. he asked them to wait in the waiting room for 5mins, and he will call for them again. in the meantime, had advised the parents to 'test' him with his left hand. the moment they stepped in the waiting room, bino started commenting about the fish and turtles and nemo in the waiting room. daddy gave him the car key to meddle with. he took it with his left hand and started fiddling with it like what he would usually do... 5mins later, the doc called for them, and they went inside, and bino started talking to the doc, and also moving his arm spontaneously.... he also grabbed for more sweets and tongue depressors with his left hand... they were quite sure that he's fine. the mother was convinced that he's fine already. on the way home, he chatted happily, and wanted to sit by himself, not on the mother. when they reached home, i will still awake playing with my grandmother. he joined in the fun, swinging his left arm, playing, yelling & laughing like nothing had ever happened!! so all is fine with just a twist and click.... all thanx to the a&e paed! mother forgot to bring her phone so no pics of the 'event'.... |
